So, we don’t have cable/satellite/high speed internet. I know, lame. But that is the way it is right now and we don’t mind. Anyhow, Tru is at the age now where I think he would enjoy watching some educational type baby dvds. I would have to buy them since we can’t stream anything online right now.
I by no means want to use the TV as a baby sitter, but there are some times where I could use the 30 minutes it would take him to watch a dvd to clean etc. My sister gave him an Elmo dvd and he will actually sit still through the whole thing and is very interested in watching it. I’ve been taking advantage of him sitting still to get in some snuggles with him. 🙂 But I seriously cannot watch Elmo very many more times. I have seen it about 4 times and I’m already waking up with the theme song stuck in my head.
My question to you is, what baby dvds/shows do not get on your last nerve but do keep your baby entertained and maybe even provide a bit of education while they’re at it? Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and help me out here. 🙂 I sincerely appreciate it. 🙂

A lot of what I use is on Netflix or Amazon streaming, but I would imagine they’re available on DVD. Gus really like Mater’s Tall Tales, and the Kung Fu Panda shorts, and he loves Pocoyo.

Thank you! I have heard that a lot of babies like Pocoyo. I’ll have to look for DVDs on amazon or something.

Check out your local library for dvd’s and the bonus you can rent them for free…

I don’t know why I didn’t think of that!! Plus, when Tru gets bored of them (or they get on my last nerve) we can just return and swap for something else. Thanks for that suggestion!! 🙂

Eva really loved (keep in mind these are all PBS shows) Miffy when she was around 2. Then it changed to Word World (not too bad, I actually enjoyed these), Peep and The Big Wide World (LOVE, narrated by Joan Cusack), and The Dinosaur Train (a little annoyed by this one because of some ridiculous accent the conductor has, but bearable and educational).
How old is Tru again?

Tru is one. We used to get PBS on antenna years ago and I remember some of those shows being on there and playing them for my babysitting kids that I had at the time. Thanks for reminding me! I’ll have to look into finding those again. 🙂

My local library keeps a good stock of PBS Kids dvds. Maybe that will be a good source?

I plan to look into that asap! I’m sure they probably do have them at our library. 🙂

I have suffered through soooo many childrens shows through the years. But i have learned that around one year, old cartoons like mickey mouse etc works best since they are made totally different from how cartoons are amde now. The old ones are less things un one frame if you understand what I mean. So Linus likes the smurfs and other old cartoons. My middle son loved the little mermaid and winnie the pooh. Not to educational though. But I started with educational ones around 2-3 yrs of age. And I swore that I would never use the TV as a babysitter begore I got kids and before I was a single mom 🙂 but in order to prepare dinner or cleaning I had to get some help from the tv 😂thankfully now I am not alone so if we watch tv, we watch it together.

Thanks for all the ideas. I can definitely bear the older cartoons far better myself lol. SO much less annoying! And you are absolutely right, sometimes it is necessary to have him doing something alone for a few minutes while I cook, clean etc.

Mickey Mouse Club is a huge hit with all my kiddos that are Tru’s age. I also know a lot of Mom’s that like the Baby Einstein videos.

Hi, we tend to stream ‘Mother Goose Club’ on youtube – the children’s performance of nursery rhymes is quite endearing. The other one is The Wiggles. They make my little guy get up and dance!
